About the Game
Vampire Survivors, from solo developer Luca “poncle” Galante, is the game that defined the “bullet-heaven” (or “survivors-like”) genre. You pick a character, walk into a field, and survive an escalating tide of monsters for up to 30 minutes. Your weapons fire automatically — your only direct input is movement.
The depth is in the build. Between waves you choose new weapons and passive items, and discovering which combinations “evolve” into screen-clearing super-weapons is the whole addictive puzzle. By the end of a run, the screen is a glorious chaos of thousands of enemies and overwhelming firepower.
It started as a cheap curiosity and became a global phenomenon, spawning countless imitators and a flood of free and paid content (including a Castlevania crossover). It costs almost nothing and swallows hundreds of hours. On Switch’s handheld, its short runs are dangerously addictive.

Why It Made the List
Vampire Survivors makes the list as a genuine genre-creator that costs less than a sandwich and delivers hundreds of hours. It’s pure, escalating dopamine — and on Switch, the perfect “just one 30-minute run” game.
What the Critics Say
Vampire Survivors holds a Metacritic score of 86. Critics were charmed by how much compulsive depth it wrings from such minimalist controls; the main caveat is its deliberately basic presentation.
What Players Say
On Steam it’s rated Overwhelmingly Positive across more than 260,000 reviews — about 98% positive, one of the highest on this list. Players warn, only half-jokingly, that it eats entire weekends.
